Campese to captain Hull KR

Former Canberra skipper Terry Campese will captain Hull KR in the forthcoming English rugby league season.

“I thought Terry was a natural candidate. He’s an experienced player and he’s been captain for Canberra, but it’s more what he brings to the role off the field as well,” said coach Chris Chester.

The 30-year-old halfback signed a one-year deal with the Robins in December and has been selected as a replacement leader for the departed Josh Hodgson and Travis Burns.

The pair shared the job last season, but the latter has gone to St Helens and the former to Canberra, Campese’s only club prior to his move to England.

“It’s a huge honour for me. This club’s got a lot of history behind it, it’s a very proud club and I can’t wait to run out there with the boys,” said Campese, the nephew of ex-Australia rugby union international David Campese.

Campese made more than 100 appearances for the Raiders in the NRL, while he has also represented Australia, New South Wales and the Country Origin side.
