Burgess picks up Souths’ best and fairest

England forward Sam Burgess has been named South Sydney’s best and fairest for the third time.

Burgess was awarded the George Piggins Medal on Friday following a strong campaign in a disappointing season for the Rabbitohs who missed the finals for a second successive year.

The Yorkshireman won the award in 2016 and in the club’s premiership-winning season in 2014.

Talented young back-rower Angus Crichton picked up three gongs, taking home the Jack Rayner players’ player award, the Roy Asotasi members’ choice award and The Burrow Appreciation award.

Cameron Murray was crowned the John Sattler rookie of the year and Damien Cook was named the Bob McCarthy clubman of the year.
