Slade snares Winton Supercars pole

Holden’s Tim Slade has continued his fast start to the Supercars event at Winton, snaring pole for Saturday’s 40-lap race.

The Brad Jones Racing driver claimed his second career pole, posting a fastest lap of one minute and 19.0660 seconds to pip defending series champion Mark Winterbottom.

Slade was fastest in Friday’s practice and backed up that speed to deliver Holden’s first pole position of the year.

Winterbottom will start from second, with teammate Cam Waters and Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin making up the second row of the grid.

Championship leader Craig Lowndes will start the race from the middle of the pack after qualifying 16th.

Red Bull Racing’s Jamie Whincup will start from ninth with teammate Shane Van Gisbergen to start in 11th.

Holden’s Nick Percat missed the qualifying session due to an engine misfire and will start from the final row of the grid.

Saturday’s race starts at 4pm AEST.
