Mostert snares Winton Supercars pole

Ford’s Chaz Mostert has claimed pole position for Sunday’s 200km Supercars race at Winton Motor Raceway.

The Prodrive Racing Australia star clocked a lap record one minute and 18.7603 seconds to narrowly secure pole from another Ford driver in Fabian Coulthard.

The Dick Johnson Racing/Team Penske driver was a mere 0.0058 of a second behind Mostert with a fastest lap of 1:18.7661.

Holden’s Craig Lowndes will start from third alongside Saturday’s race winner Tim Slade, who qualified fourth fastest.

Championship leader Scott McLaughlin will start from sixth with Holden’s Jamie Whincup, who was the first driver to break the lap record in the qualifying session, set to start from eighth.

Defending champion Mark Winterbottom has qualified 10th while Holden Racing Team’s woes have continued with drivers Garth Tander and James Courtney qualifying 19th and 20th respectively.

Sunday’s race is set to start at 1.45pm.
