I should be more rewarded in F1: Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo feels he should have more than just three grand prix wins to show for his six seasons in Formula One.

A month out from his 27th birthday, the Australian is frustrated that he doesn’t have “anything close” to a world title.

The normally optimistic and affable driver was left dejected after his Red Bull team cost him a potential victory for the second straight race at the Monaco GP.

Starting from pole for the first time in his career on Sunday, Ricciardo looked a likely winner until a bungled pitstop on lap 33 cost him the lead.

He finished second behind reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.

It followed a unsuccessful team strategy at the Spanish Grand Prix a fortnight earlier.

Ricciardo has gone 32 races without a win, dating back to his third breakthrough victory in 2014.

“I’ve had my head held high all season,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Part of the frustrating thing is that I really do believe, and I’ve believed it for a long time – I don’t want to say it because it’s arrogant – but I believe a lot in my ability, let’s just say that.

“And I should be getting more rewarded.

“I’m 27 very soon and I don’t even have anything close to a world title and I believe I should have something like that very soon.

“Two weeks now, it could have been two wins and it’s not. It’s getting a little bit long in the tooth.”

Since making his debut for HRT in 2011, Ricciardo has had 94 race starts but is still considered a rising star in the sport and one of the championship’s most talented drivers.

He admitted post-race he wasn’t sure where to go from here or what to do.

The latest debacle has reignited speculation Ricciardo might switch to Ferrari next year, although Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said in March the Aussie was under contract in 2017.
