Wyong Cup Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

All the big name trainers and jockeys will head to Wyong on Friday for the running of the 2020 Carlton Draught Wyong Gold Cup (2100m).

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller has won the last two runnings of the Wyong Gold Cup and will saddle up three runners in the thirteen horse field, with The Lord Mayor, Savacool and Toryjoy.

Top Sydney jockeys James McDonald, Brenton Avdulla and Kathy O’Hara will partner the Waller trio.

Newcastle’s top trainer Kris Lees will also have three runners with the top weight Raheen House (Nash Rawiller), veteran Big Duke (Jason Collett) and the promising Attention Run (Kerrin McEvoy).

We have analysed the entire field and our complete 2020 Wyong Gold Cup tips can be found below!

Raheen House

Raheen House put in some good performances during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a win in the Group 2 Chairman’s Quality (2600m) at Randwick followed by a third in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick.

The English import will be fitter for one run from a spell for a fifth in the Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m) at Randwick a fortnight ago and looks well placed here second up. One of the main chances.

Hush Writer

Hush Writer failed to fire during the 2020 Autumn Carnival against tougher opposition and is better suited here.

Hush Writer will be having his first run back since finishing eleventh in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Randwick in April and the 2100m will suit first.

Big Duke

Big Duke is the Grand Daddy of the field and showed some return to form with a first up fourth in the 1800m Premier’s Cup Prelude at Randwick a fortnight ago.

The nine year old will strip fitter for that run and could be a force over the 2100m second up.

The Lord Mayor

The Lord Mayor was back amongst the minor money two starts back when second in the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m) followed by a fifth in a 1600m Eagle Farm Handicap.

Tends to mix his form but if he found his best could figure in the finish.

Savacool

Savacool found the winner’s stall two starts back in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury on August 20 and then made up some ground when sixth in the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (1900m) at Rosehill last Saturday.

Savacool is yet to win beyond 1800m.

Attention Run

Attention Run is still eligible for restricted class but did run a nice race when second in the 1800m Premier’s Cup Prelude at Randwick a fortnight ago.

Will be fitter for that run but is yet to win beyond 1850m but has been placed at 2100m and 2400m and has each way claims again on the minimum weight.

Zacada

The former Kiwi trained Zacada was well beaten at his first start for Randwick trainers Jim and Greg Lee and looks tested on his sixth of six in the 1800m Premier’s Cup Prelude at Randwick a fortnight ago.

Toryjoy

Toryjoy is still eligible for restricted class but was beaten less than a length last start when fourth in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury last start.

The six year old mare is yet to win beyond 1800m.

Paths Of Glory

Paths Of Glory is stepping up in grade coming off a last start win in a BenchMark 94 Handicap on the Kensington Track at Randwick in the middle of July.

The grey is facing tougher opposition here.

Costello

Costello is fitter for one run back from a break but was a well beaten seventh in a 1400m Randwick BenchMark 88 Handicap a fortnight ago.

Kiss The Bride

Kiss The Bride is chasing a hat trick following two wins at Randwick in an 1800m BenchMark 78 Handicap and in a 2400m BenchMark 78 Handicap.

The gelding is down in the weights but is facing much tougher opposition here.

Spencer

Spencer is still eligible for restricted class but did run a nice race last start when third in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) at Hawkesbury at double figure odds and could sneak into a place again.

Jazzland

Jazzland has fair form in the Country Cups but will find this tougher.

Jazzland was the winner of the 1600m South Grafton Cup at Grafton three starts back and then last start finished third in the 2000m Taree Cup.
