Feehan Stakes Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2020

There is plenty of anticipation in the running of this year’s Ladbrokes Feehan Stakes (1600m) with the winner to be exempt from the ballot for the 2020 Group 1 $5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 24.

A small field 9 runners are set to compete for the $250,000 purse with multiple Group 1 winner Humidor to lead the field out while 2020 Melbourne Cup favourite Surprise Baby is set to kick off his Spring Carnival campaign.

We have analysed the entire Group 2 weight for age field and our complete 2020 John F. Feehan Stakes tips can be found below!

Humidor

Multiple Group 1 winner Humidor is set to make his debut for the Chris Waller stable but his most recent form in Western Australia has been below par for a race of this standard.

Humidor is coming off a last start fifth in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes (2000m) at Belmont in Perth and the now eight year old is facing much stronger opposition here but a return to form could be on the cards.

Waller has put the blinkers and the tongue tie back on Humidor so expect a better showing.

Regal Power

West Australian trained Regal Power was the winner of the $5m All-Star Mile (1600m) at Caulfield in March but has been well beaten at his two 2020 Spring Carnival starts.

Regal Power was always well back when a first up ninth in the Group 2 P. B. Lawrence Stakes and then never threatened when twelfth in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield last Saturday.

Has the blinkers off but has to improve quickly to be a show.

Streets Of Avalon

Streets Of  Avalon broke through for his initial Group 1 win in the Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield during the 2020 Melbourne Autumn Carnival but has only been placed once from his next four starts when second in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield at his first run this preparation.

Streets Of Avalon raced on the pace last Saturday in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield but faded in the run home to finish eleventh.

Streets Of Avavlon is yet to win beyond 1500m.

Surprise Baby

Surprise Baby is resuming after a long lay off but has won first up in the past and is a winner over this course and distance.

Surprise Baby hasn’t started since finishing fifth in the 2019 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington last November and is set to kick off another Melbourne Cup campaign but could race well fresh.

Mahamedeis

Mahamedeis is chasing a hat trick after wins in the 2394m VOBIS Gold Stayers at Caulfield and in a 2040m Handicap at The Valley.

Mahamedeis has a good record at The Valley with two wins and a second from four starts but will find this class a lot tougher than his recent outings and will be better suited over more ground.

Sircconi

Sircconi has been ultra-consistent with one win and four placings from his last six starts with his best effort being runner up in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield two starts back.

Sircconi was then beaten a nose when second in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield last Saturday and is unplaced at The Valley from three attempts..

Exasperate

Exasperate looks well out of his class here on his latest third in a 1600m Caulfield Handicap a fortnight ago.

Harbour Views

Harbour Views is resuming but looks tested in this company.

Harbour Views is having his first start since finishing fourth in a 2000m Handicap at Caulfield in June.

Coming Around

Coming Around was runner up behind Alsvin last start at The Valley in a 1523m Handicap and looking for something easier.
