Warwick Farm Horse Racing Tips – 29/1/2014

An excellent card of racing has been assembled for Warwick Farm on Wednesday. The weather is overcast, the track is good and the rail is in out three metres for the entire circuit.

Race One: Australian Turf Club Maiden Plate 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: Falago (Best Odds: $3.60) comes to Sydney after an excellent debut under the lights at Cranbourne behind Gallant Express, who has performed well in town in the past, so the form lines up quite well here. Only has to hold his form to close here.
Big Danger: Traitor (Best Odds: $3.30) took forever to wind up when resuming in the Magic Millions Maiden, but once he got balanced up, his last 200m was excellent, suggesting that he’ll appreciate further, which he gets here. Looks a promising type for Team Hawkes and he should prove hard to beat here.
Roughie: Man Of Melody (Best Odds: $6.50) looked the winner last start at Gosford, only to beaten by a peach ride from Jason Collett on the eventual winner, Rhamdani. This Patinack runner looks to have his fair share of ability, drawn well and Cassidy rides.

Race Two: Tab iPad App Maiden Plate 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: Really good maiden race here. The step up to 1400m is going to really suit Vanilla Princess (Best Odds: $3.50), who has lacked gate speed in her opening two career runs over 1200m and 1250m respectively. Got a long way back in the latter of those races and worked home okay late. Bred to lap up this distance and a touch further, so with a better getaway from the gates, she’ll be hard to beat.
Big Danger: Entertains (Best Odds: $6.00) was well supported on debut at Newcastle and didn’t show any early dash, settling near last on the rail. She poked her way through upon straightening and was about to burst through when the two horses near came in and cut her out of the run, losing all momentum and any winning chance. Nice filly who looks to have plenty of scope for improvement.
Roughie: Sea Sovereign (Best Odds: $41.00) is first up here for Bede Murray. Not often you see Murray put his horses in a city race first up, especially a maiden. He normally looks for a race on his home track at Kembla or the country tracks, so the fact he has got this filly in here suggests she has ability, and her debut run back in June was very good, coming home strongly late.

Race Three: Ibis Milano Lunch Special Handicap (75) 1400m Form Guide

Back Me: Going for a bit of value in Lucky Ima Cugat (Best Odds: $21.00). He has been a very frustrating horse to follow for punters, but he almost bounced back to winning form last time out at Scone, circling the field halfway from home, hitting the lead at the top of the straight and looking the winner, only to be nailed right on the line. Massive step up in class here, but the small field and slow pace will help his cause as he is at his best when he swoops down the outside.
Big Danger: The small field will also suit Sir Berus (Best Odds: $3.50), who worked home okay late on Saturday at Randwick behind Dream Choice, who is flying at present. He’ll probably sit second last and give Lucky Ima Cugat the drag up, but he has the class and Bowman is on board.
Roughie: Duke Albert (Best Odds: $7.00) looked in need of the run first up at Canterbury behind More Than Brave. His form during the Winter was very good, and if he brings that here, gee he’ll give this a shake.

Race Four: Tab Rewards Handicap 1100m Form Guide

Back Me: Your Excellency (Best Odds: $5.50) for me. Set a fast tempo at Kensington last start and looked the winner 150m out, but New Divide kicked hard underneath him and edged him out late. Meets a similar class field here, senior rider on board, drawn well, hard to beat if he gets a cheap furlong.
Big Danger: Lyric (Best Odds: $5.00) has been a revelation this time in, winning twice most impressively from as many runs. Loved the way he attacked the line at Gosford after sitting off the pace, unleashing hard over the final furlong. He has come back so well this time in and can definitely put another picket fence next to his name.
Roughie: Idance (Best Odds: $6.50) is the interesting runner. Having his first run in New South Wales for Team Hawkes after racing in Queensland. Better suited at 1400-1600m, but did trial quite nicely last week, and looked forward in condition, so a first up win wouldn’t surprise.

Race Five: Pro-Ride Handicap (70) 2200m Form Guide

Back Me: Real bunch of pluggers here, so I’m going with the one who is up and coming with upside- Hypernicus (Best Odds: $8.50). He has been racing, seemingly, over unsuitable distances given he just lacks any early pace and has to take riding to hold a spot. Worked home well late at Canterbury behind Dubai Dusk in a real messy race. I think the distance will suit and as I said, he has upside. Should be noted he is accepted for the next race.
Big Danger: Son Of Ross (Best Odds: $6.00) is similar to the top tip in the sense he doesn’t have any early pace and has to be dug up. Looked the winner at Canterbury, but couldn’t quite get past Immense, a real tough stayer himself. Drawn wide here, but that will suit his racing pattern of building up momentum from the back.
Roughie: Roaming Around (Best Odds: $15.00) looked home in the Moruya Cup, but just got nailed right on the line by Celtic Soul. Rises in class here, but is racing quite well, and did beat home Immense two back, who then came out and won at Canterbury.

Race Six: Congrats @ Vinery Handicap 1600m Form Guide

Back Me: Looks a lovely race for Fantastic Ballad (Best Odds: $2.00). He was good over the 1100m at Canterbury first up behind Turf Hero, then was unlucky when second here before not being suited by the slow pace at Randwick when fifth to Target In Sight, who ran well on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast. Then at Canterbury last start…ugh, painful I’ll tell you. Never ever got out and went to the line under a throttle hold. If he gets normal luck, he’ll go very close.
Big Danger: Intimate Moment (Best Odds: $8.00) is a most consistent galloper for Ron Quinton, who always tries her heart out. Worked home really nicely from the back in a slowly run race dominated by the leader, Our Celladoor. That was 1400m, so the mile and a more genuine tempo is perfect for her here.
Roughie: Roman Eagle (Best Odds: $31.00) was well tried at odds last start at Port Macquarie and it almost came off when a close up third. He is a horse who races best when he has a space between runs, so don’t be concerned by that, and if he brought his Melbourne form here, he’d be very competitive.

Race Seven: Warwick Farm Handicap (70) 1300m Form Guide

Back Me: I’ll keep buttering up on Xatel Ekwa (Best Odds: $18.00). He just cannot get any luck in his races. Looked to be bolting last time out at Canterbury, but never got a crack at them and went to the post untested. As we keep saying, if the breaks go his way, he will win one of these races at good odds.
Big Danger: Maluti (Best Odds: $5.00) is another who is flying, but can’t seem to get any breaks go his way. Stormed home to run third in the race the top two contested. On his home track, drawn well and is in good form without winning. Gets his chance here.
Roughie: Perfect Scout (Best Odds: $8.00). nabbed Lucky Ima Cugat right on the post last time out at Scone, aided by a gem ride from Christian Reith. Cassidy is on board now, drawn well, and is a must include in exotics.
