Tim Clark has opted to team up with the fresh contender Grinzinger Belle for a final shot at Group One success this season in the Tattersall’s Tiara.
Following his recent triumph in the Stradbroke Handicap aboard War Machine, Clark is looking to close out the 2024-25 racing season on a high. Although he hasn’t ridden Grinzinger Belle in competition before, he believes she fits the profile of a strong Tiara chance.
“My manager was keen. He had a look at the potential make-up of the field and she is the fresh horse on the scene,” Clark said.
“The mares that have been racing up there have been taking turns a bit and there isn’t a lot between them, so we looked outside the square a bit.”
A consistent Group performer in Victoria, Grinzinger Belle was given a short break after a midfield effort in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) behind Fangirl in April at Randwick.
Before that, she impressed with a front-running win in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley, and she boasts two victories over the Tattersall’s Tiara trip of 1400m.
Clark is optimistic about her tactical style playing to her advantage in the Tiara.
“A few of the mares’ races up there have lacked a bit of speed and she is one who is going to make her own luck,” he said.
“She likes to run along and break a field up. Hopefully we can end the season with another Group One.”
Prepared by Danny O’Brien, Grinzinger Belle is currently rated an $11 chance in early markets, with the Chris Waller-trained Firestorm holding favouritism at $3.50.
