There are 10 races on the card at Rosehill this Saturday afternoon and we have assessed everyone of them.
Our full 2023 The Rosebud Day Tips & Preview can be found below.
Race 1: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1300m)
Caballus won by the barest of margins at Randwick at just his second career start two weeks ago.
The Chris Waller trained three-year-old colt has a fair bit of upside and will only take improvement with experience.
Barrier three and James McDonald are both positives.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Caballus
Race 2: Benchmark 72 Handicap (1500m)
Satness has been up for a long time this prep but he is racing particularly well.
He comes into this race off the back of two wins in a row at Gosford and Kembla Grange and I can’t see why he won’t measure up in this.
Nice each way odds.
Suggested Bet: No. 13 Satness
Race 3: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1800m)
Wineglass Bay has placed seven times from 12 career starts and he has not been far away in both so far this prep.
He jumped awkwardly over 1800m at Randwick last start but kept chasing down the straight to be beaten just over a length.
The blinkers go on for this assignment and he looks well placed.
Suggested Bet: No. 5 Wineglass Bay
Race 4: Highway Handicap (1300m)
Wizard Of Oz would have won first up had he have found clear running in the straight.
He finished fourth in that Highway race, beaten under a length and will take improvement out of the run.
His two trial wins leading into that first up assignment were good and he’s drawn perfectly in barrier four.
Suggested Bet: No. 5 Wizard Of Oz
Race 5: Benchmark 88 Handicap (1200m)
Devil’s Throat is a horse that I feel has a fair amount of natural talent but he doesn’t do himself any favours.
The son of Snitzel closed out his last campaign with back to back wins but he tends to over race during the run.
He was back to his old ways when resuming in the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton but he’s been to the trials since and he represents good value at his current price in this particular race.
Suggested Bet: No. 6 Devil’s Throat
Race 6: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)
Has met a few of these along the road this prep and she gets in well at the weights comparatively.
The five-year-old mare was placed in her first two this campaign and was beaten less than half a length in a similar grade last time out.
Worth an each way play.
Suggested Bet: No. 6 African Daisy
Race 7: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m)
Tony Gollan has a handy one on his hands in the shape of Freedom Rally who has won four of five in his short racing career.
Has won with a leg in the air at all three in Queensland this prep so he gets his chance down south now as a four-year-old.
This is a decent little race but Freedom Rally is the horse with the most amount of upside in the race.
Suggested Bet: No. 5 Freedom Rally
Race 8: Listed Rosebud (1100m)
Tiz Invincible was last seen finishing second behind Kristilli in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick in April.
She was the widest runner in her most recent trial and she took over with ease to win with plenty in the tank.
James McDonald will steer from barrier one and this looks a lovely way for her to kick start her campaign with a win in The Rosebud.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Tiz Invincible
Race 9: Open Handicap (1400m)
The Godolphin horse Pericles is a promising four-year-old gelding who has placed in six of nine career starts.
The son of Street Boss was denied by the barest of margins in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas before James Cummings stepped him up in trip where he was well beaten on a heavy track in the Australian Derby over 2400m.
His latest trial win leading into this first up assignment suggests he’s ready to perform first up and his class will take him a long way.
Suggested Bet: No. 2 Pericles
Race 10: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m)
Suggested Bet: Boxed Trifecta 2/3/8/14
