Switzerland retired to Coolmore, intro fee announced

Coolmore has officially announced the retirement of talented three-year-old Switzerland, confirming that his recent run in the T J Smith Stakes was his final race.

Tom Magnier previously hinted that the Chris Waller-trained colt, a son of Snitzel, would be standing at Coolmore’s Jerrys Plains property, and that plan has now been locked in.

Switzerland will begin his stud career at a fee of $60,500, inclusive of GST.

“Switzerland is a horse that we have been looking forward to standing at Coolmore for a long time,” Magnier said.

“He was always the head of his class from when he was broken-in at the farm to when he first arrived in Chris Waller’s stable.

“He was a top-class two-year-old, the fastest ever winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes and the highest-rated spring three-year-old ever by the great Snitzel.

“Physically, he is a stunning horse who we believe will be extremely easy for breeders to mate to, with a high-class American speed pedigree that lends itself to much of the Australian broodmare population.

“He is a very exciting addition to our roster and we will be supporting him with quality mares from the start.”

Switzerland joins fellow Snitzel progeny Golden Slipper winner Shinzo and runner-up Best Of Bordeaux on the Coolmore stallion roster.

A $1.5 million purchase from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Switzerland retires with five wins from 10 starts, including his biggest triumph in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.

As a two-year-old, he also claimed the Group 2 Todman Stakes, and his lead-up to the Coolmore included victory in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes.
