Surgery for jockey Chris Symons after crocodile bite

Victorian jockey Chris Symons will be out of action for more than a week after being bitten by a 1.4-metre crocodile. That’s right, a crocodile!

The bizarre injury occurred when Symons was preparing to move a saltwater crocodile at ‘The Funky Farm’, a private zoo that he and his wife run at their Mornington Peninsula property.

“Based on an incident with a saltwater croc, I will be out of action in the saddle for a week or so!!” Symons wrote on Twitter.

“I was told they bite however now I know how hard!

Symons reportedly spent a night in hospital after requiring minor surgery after being bitten by ‘Crikey’ the crocodile.

“Due to bacteria they carry, I had minor surgery last night. They are amazing animals that should always be treated with the utmost respect, human error on my behalf was the cause.

“Crikey is the most intelligent creature and my lesson has been learnt.
