Softer track Far Easier for stable star in Glasshouse Handicap 2025

Trainer David McColm is confident Far Too Easy is back on track ahead of the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast this Saturday.

Although the gelding finished 14th in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 14, McColm attributes that run to the unsuitably firm Eagle Farm track.

“The track was really, really hard,” McColm said. “Regan Bayliss just said to me from the moment he jumped, he just didn’t feel comfortable. So those firm tracks, he does feel them, and we are very much aware of that.”

Before the Stradbroke, Far Too Easy ran second to eventual winner War Machine at Doomben, and a subsequent gallop at the Gold Coast has boosted McColm’s optimism.

“He came through it super,” McColm said. “Going into the Stradbroke, I said to Regan, I don’t think he’s been as good as what I had him going. But he’s pulled up really well, he’s well within himself.”

“He had a gallop at the Gold Coast last Saturday with another horse and just went super. The thing is that we’re going to get a softer track on Saturday, I think that’s without a doubt. That’ll suit him.”

Far Too Easy provided McColm with his biggest training triumph in last year’s $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200m), but he won’t be defending his crown due to a recent stable relocation.

“Unfortunately, we’re not eligible this year because we’ve actually relocated to the Gold Coast in the past ten days,” said McColm, who was previously based at Murwillumbah. “We’ve lost the entry into the Kosi with him which weighed heavily in our decisions, but the for and against it, we thought we’d be better off relocating.”

Far Too Easy is currently the $4.50 second favourite for the Glasshouse Handicap, with Warnie the narrow $4.00 favourite.
