Spring preparations underway for Waller’s star girls

Chris Waller is preparing to unleash a powerful team of fillies and mares this spring, with several of his star female gallopers already back in work ahead of the 2024-25 racing season.

Among those returning are stable favourite Via Sistina, Coolmore Classic winner Lady Shenandoah, unbeaten prospect Autumn Glow, dominant Australian Derby heroine Aeliana, and the always-classy Fangirl.

Waller plans to split the group between states for their spring campaigns. Several will likely resume in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 23, while others could head south for the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a week later.

“They are all back in work,” Waller said.

“In the Winx Stakes we will be well represented. A couple will go to the Memsie Stakes.

“A few of them might end up in the Makybe Diva (Stakes) and then Fangirl will come back for the King Charles III Stakes.

“Via Sistina will probably stay down there and is likely to follow a similar path to the Cox Plate as last year.”

With less than two months until the start of Group 1 action, the Winx Stakes will serve as the first elite-level race of the new term, launching a busy carnival season.

Waller also confirmed that three Yulong-owned American imports—Anisette, Moira, and Full Count Felicia—are set to rejoin his team. All three are Grade One winners overseas and made brief but promising appearances during the Sydney autumn.

Anisette and Moira each contested the Doncaster Mile (1600m), while Full Count Felicia placed fourth behind Via Sistina in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m).

Waller has flagged the P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) in Melbourne as a likely spring starting point for the international trio.
