The $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight looms as the first major assignment for Savvy Hallie as she builds toward a Sydney autumn campaign.
Trainer Brad Widdup confirmed the Group 2-winning filly had secured a slot for the January 10 feature at the Gold Coast, with her preparation well underway following a quiet Warwick Farm trial earlier this month.
She is set for another public trial before heading north to tackle the Sunlight (1100m) first-up.
“She’s aiming at the Sunlight. She’s got B2B’s slot there,” Widdup said.
“She will have another trial and go in first-up. She is a top-class filly and it’s a $3 million race, so why not?”
Savvy Hallie made a strong impression as a two-year-old, placing in multiple Group races before returning this season to win her maiden at Newcastle in August. She then claimed the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and ran third to Apocalyptic in the Furious Stakes (1200m).
Connections ended her spring early to focus entirely on the Queensland feature.
“It has been on the radar for a while,” Widdup said.
“That’s why they stopped with her instead of pushing through the spring. She looks great and if she has improved that little bit, she will be pretty exciting.”
Stablemate Nashville Jack is also on track for the Sunlight after his Randwick win in July.
The race was introduced this year and won by Private Harry, who subsequently took out the Group 1 Galaxy (1100m).
Lady Of Camelot emerged as the leading filly, finishing second before placing in the Light Fingers Stakes, Surround Stakes and Coolmore Classic.
Widdup now has his eye firmly on the Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick on February 14 for Savvy Hallie’s autumn return.
