The one to beat, but the confidence isn’t as high as what it was prior to the Chipping Norton where he was a big flop. If the real Hartnell turns up, he will spank these.

Solid in the Apollo, but very ordinary in the Chipping Norton. Trial win since has been quite good and on his best form, he’d go close.

I thought he was really brave in the Australian Cup last week and the thing in his corner is that he is on the seven day back up on a heavy track, which is a big plus.

Tends to save his best for the Sydney leg, and has been prepped specifically for Sydney/Brisbane. Trial was good, and the give in the ground is a big tick.

5. The United States (3) – Odds: $5.00
Very hard horse to follow, but did win this race last year off the seven day back up, which is what he is doing here. For mine though, he hasn’t done quite enough in two runs this prep to warrant winning claims.

6. He’s Our Rokkii (2) – Odds: $13
Not sure what to make of his run in the Ajax last Saturday. On face value, he was poor considering he was hard in the market, but perhaps he is looking for further, which he gets here. I’ll be happy to watch him though.

7. Antonio Giuseppe (8) – Odds: $9.00
On first look, he was disappointing last weekend, but looking back, he went enormous in chasing the hot speed and was gunned down late by the horse who had the drop behind him. WFA isn’t his go, but he’s hard fit and will be strong late.

8. Sofia Rosa (7) – Odds: $17
Quality mare from New Zealand who has been really good in two runs back from a break. Suited up to 2000m and she has loads of quality.
