Perth Ice Works Guide

1. UNCLE GEORGE – J Brown (7)

Strung three wins together before a third to Full Reign over 1800m last start, beaten 2 ¾ lengths. That was his first run for month, so expecting him to take some benefit from that hit-out. He finished within three lengths of the Rohan in the WATC Derby last season so the trip shouldn’t be a drama.

Odds: $5.50

2. GALAXY PRINCE – W Pike (9)

Another runner in good form, have won three of his past four including a length win over Greymates last start as 5/4. Rises 4kgs on last start and drawn wide. Expecting him to find a few too good here.

Odds: $4.50

3. REIGN OF TERROR – S Parnham (4)

You have to go back fifteen starts and to September of last year to finds this guys only win, which was a restricted race at Belmont over a mile. His last two – where he finished tenth of sixteen and sixth of twelve in races of lesser quality than this one, doesn’t enthuse.

Odds: $81.00

4. POP CULTURE – T Turner (6)

4yo mare who won the Ascot Gold Cup two starts back defeating Rosie Rocket and Moonlight Bay (both have ran well since) before running fourth to Luckygray in the G1 Kingston Town Classic last start. Drops half a kilo and a mile in grade here, winner of the WA Oaks (2400m) earlier this year and it’s near impossible to find a chink in her armour.

Odds: $2.15

5. MILNATHORT – D Staeck (3)

He chalked up his second win from nine starts at his most recent outing when taking out a RST 64 event at Pinjara a little over a fortnight ago. He has drawn well considering he likes to be up on the speed but just can’t see him being able to handle the significant rise in class.

Odds: $67.00

6. FLIRT WITH ME – J Noske (10)

He has had three starts back this preparation and finished half length behind Milnathort last start at Pinjara. Closed well on that occasion and the trip will hold no fears – might have a bit more upside than most.

Odds: $61.00

7. REBELSON – J Whiting (5)

A promising 3yo who has won five of his ten starts including his second Listed race when claiming the Acquanita Stakes (1800m) by a 1 ½ lengths last start. Goes beyond 1800m for this first time but does drops 4kgs his last start and has drawn nicely in five. See him as the biggest danger to the favourite.

Odds: $4.40

8. COUGHLIN’S LAW – S O’Donnell (8)

Lining up for only his fifth career start and his third this preparation but going on his recent efforts, can’t see him figuring in the finish here.

Odds: $151.00

9. MOREISH – S Meeres (2)

Finally broke her maiden status last start – at her twelfth attempt – in scoring a 2 ¼ length win in a Bunbury Maiden. Hard to see her making it back-to-back victories in this.

Odds: $26.00

10. SUPER FRIARED – K Yuill (1)

A filly by Blackfriars who comes into this race with only two starts to her name, the latest of which was a head second to Desert Glow in a 3yo Restricted race at Ascot middle of last week. Connections will be pleased with what she’s shown in two outings but this race might be too much too soon.

Odds: $41.00

SUMMARY

Pop Culture the obvious pick here and despite bad luck in running – I can’t see any of her nine competitors challenging her. Maybe an exacta with Rebelson, might increase the return?
