Chautauqua’s younger sister Mulberry Walk has failed to live up to the hype surrounding her debut, finishing second last of six runners at Hawkesbury.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Mulberry Walk was the $1.24 favourite to win the six-horse 1000m-maiden for three-year-olds on Sunday.
In contrast to her elder sibling who is noted for his slow starts, Mulberry Walk flew out of the gates to lead early but laboured in the straight, finishing three lengths from the winner All Ours.
Her jockey Blake Shinn told stewards she travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race but failed to respond to his riding when under pressure rounding the turn.
A post-race veterinary examination showed the filly had a slow recovery rate.
Mulberry Walk is by More Than Ready out of dual Group One winner Lovely Jubly while Chautauqua is by Encosta De Lago.
