Memsie Stakes Tips, Field Preview and Selections – 2023

Group 1 racing returns to Melbourne this week and we are set for an outstanding edition of the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

There is plenty of talent engaged, but there is also no doubt that the Memsie Stakes field is headlined by both Mr Brightside and I Wish I Win; two horses of which plenty is expected throughout the forthcoming Spring Carnival.

You can find my complete 2023 Memsie Stakes Tips below.

Memsie Stakes – Winner

He is my favourite horse currently in work, and I am actually pretty confident that I Wish I Win will go through the spring undefeated… at least up and until (and including) The Everest!

I Wish I Win stormed onto the Australian racing scene last spring, winning the The Golden Eagle at the conclusion of a very smart preparation.

He resumed in autumn this year for a similarly smart campaign that was highlighted by his memorable victory in the TJ Smith Stakes.

This is the perfect launchpad for him and I think that he is just the best horse in the race.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 I Wish I Win

Memsie Stakes – 2nd

His fresh win in the PB Lawrence Stakes has Mr Brightside well positioned for another standout performance in the Memsie Stakes 2023.

Mr Brightside first realised his Group 1 potential in the 2022 Doncaster Mile, and after failing to reach those heights last spring, it’s fair to say that he went to a whole new level in the autumn of this year.

Having continued to improve with each run back, the Bullbars gelding simply could not have been more impressive on his way to winning the All-Star Mile, before lugging topweight to a successful defence of the Doncaster Mile.

With even luck, he’s another that will be right in the finish this week.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Mr Brightside

Memsie Stakes – 3rd

The value of the three firmly entrenched in the Memsie Stakes market is undoubtedly Alligator Blood.

The Gator’s cult status has only continued to build throughout the last twelve months, and after recording a few more Group 1 wins in 2022, he returned in February this year to add the Futurity Stakes to his resume.

He went a little amiss after finishing fourth in the All-Star Mile, but we know that he absolutely flies fresh, and his two recent publics trials have been very sharp.

Timmy Clark will take him forward, and there isn’t a better judge of pace in the country!

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Alligator Blood

Memsie Stakes – 4th

I thought that the Kiwi raider Aegon looked a bit of value in Memsie Stakes betting.

Aegon has been a great horse since his first preparation, and he is multiple Group 1 winner in his native New Zealand.

Having returned a fair effort to finish fifth in the Group 1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong back in April, the Sacred Falls gelding returned to Australian shores to fill the minors of the PB Lawrence Stakes, recording three wins from five previous attempts at this point of his preparation.

He will need some luck from a potentially sticky draw, but I think he can return a really cheeky effort in a race like this one.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Aegon

Bet Now: Aegon
