Late Male: 21/6/2014 Horse Racing Tips – Randwick racecourse

Randwick is where Sydney racing takes place this Saturday with a strong eight race card. The weather is overcast, the track is slow and the rail is out seven metres for the entire circuit. With the wet weather about, the track will come under scrutiny again and off the fence may be the place to be.

Race One (12:20) : TAB Early Quaddie Plate 1200m

Back Me: Putting Uratta Belle on top. Well performed filly who has raced against some quality youngsters of late and has been far from disgraced. First up ran a lovely second to Shigeru Sendan in the Woodlands at Scone, before going to Warwick Farm and not handling the tight circuit yet still ran a credible second. Bigger track looks ideal, as does the rise to 1200m and is bred to handle rain affected going.
Big Danger: Delectation had no luck first up at Warwick Farm, being caught wide with no cover on the speed yet found plenty when asked by Nash to get the job done. He is another who had very good form earlier on in the year behind the likes of Unencumbered and Fighting Sun. Fitter, drawn well and should prove hard to beat.
Roughie: Not sure what he beat on debut, but Va Va Veni was quite impressive when leading throughout at Hawkesbury, running good time on a slow track. As I said, probably didn’t beat much, but the second horse has won since and the third horse ran really well at Kembla.

Race Two (12:55) : Instagram @Atc_Races Handicap (85) 1200m

Back Me: Going for some value in My Sabeel. He has always been a bit of an enigma, but in two runs this prep, he has been fantastic. Savaged the line when resuming at Hawkesbury, then put it all together to get the job done last week at Canterbury, aided by a lovely steer from Koby Jennings. One good apprentice is being replaced by another with Taylor Marshall riding the horse, and with his 3kg claim, the horse only carries 51kg here, loves the wet and although he hasn’t raced at this track, he has trialled very well.
Big Danger: Cradle Me is another Sydney mare who is absolutely low flying at the moment, bolting in at her two runs this time in, both of which have been on firm ground at Rosehill. Her record at Randwick doesn’t read well, and she has to carry 58.5kg, but she is an in form mare at the moment, and during this time of year, mares usually hold their form at this level.
Roughie: Commanding Wit can be tricky to follow, but she has put it together at her past two outings, including at this track/distance a fortnight back when wearing down tiring leader Tralfaz. She is a winner and there is no reason why she can’t do it again.

Race Three (13:30) : Schweppes Handicap (80) 1000m

Back Me: Miss Alibi looks the way to go here. Bolted in a Gosford trial by 12 lengths before making her first up run at Listed level in the Denise’s Joy during the Scone Carnival and she was quite game there, running a close up third to Atmospherical. Her form in the first prep was excellent, and certainly good enough to go close here. Don’t be worried about her running in the wet because she has handled it with ease in barrier trials.
Big Danger: Wonderbolt went to the line under a hold first up at Scone, then made amends in a weak Kembla Grange event before running last week at Canterbury and savaging the line late to run third. Tumbles in weight, drawn well and is back on his home track.
Roughie: Everage has really plot since this time last year where she was competitive at Stakes level and winning. In saying that, her run in the Denise’s Joy during the Scone Carnival was admirable with the big weight. Carried 59kg there and now drops to 53.5kg, meeting our top tip 4kg better at the weights. Definite value runner.

Race Four (14:05) : Hyland Race Colours Handicap (75) 1400m

Back Me: Tough race to sort out. I’ll go with Agadir. If you backed him first up in the QLD Guineas, you have to forgive him given he was wide with no cover on a hot speed, and the form out of that race looks outstanding. Comes back to Sydney, and although drawn wide, has a touch of class on his side.
Big Danger: Sugar Rush has really showed significant improvement this time in, and more toughness. That was clearly evident last time out at Kensington when carrying 60.5kg on a heavy track against the mares and only getting caught in the last few strides. Back to her own age now and drops 4kg.
Roughie: Sinjoren was really good first up at Warwick Farm, then was quite simply just dreadful in his two subsequent runs, both of which at Stakes level. Comes back to benchmark company, freshened up…it’ll be interesting to see how he performs.

Race Five (14:40) : TAB Quaddie Handicap (75) 2590m

Back Me: Putting the up and coming kiwi mare Enjay on top. She has been quite consistent in four runs this time in, and has steadily got better at each outing, culminating with a dominant win at Te Rapa a fortnight back. Can handle a wet track and will relish the distance.
Big Danger: Tonopah has come of age in a short amount of time this prep. Early on in his career, he promised so much and failed to deliver, but now, he is taking steady steps towards realising that potential. Strong winner last start at Warwick Farm, beating home our roughie, and meets that horse at the same weights for a two length win. Hard to beat.
Roughie: Phrases is a tough stayer from Taree for Bindi Cheers who loves a dog fight, as he did last start at Kensington when leading all the way and finding plenty. He’ll have no issues with the distance and must rate as a chance.

Race Six (15:15) : McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (90) 1600m

Back Me: Rugged Cross was a very impressive winner over this track/distance a fortnight back given he sat last in a small field, and naturally, the pace was very, very slow, and on a heavy track it’s hard to pick up and make ground, but he did it and got the job done. Now that he has got the confidence boost, he can go right on with it.
Big Danger: Disciple tried his guts out a fortnight back and was only beaten by Eigelstein and a classic rails hugging ride from James Arthur Cassidy. He has had three runs now, and should be just about at peak fitness. Should take a power of beating against this lot.
Roughie: Transonic put it all together for a tough win at Rosehill in what was a fairly strong race. She has to go up in weight and can struggle on soft ground, but she is on her home track and has an inform apprentice steering in Sam Clipperton.

Race Seven (15:50) : Theraces.com.au Handicap (85) 1400m

Back Me: Very keen on Longshoreman here. He was enormous last time out at Rosehill given he was three wide with no cover on the speed yet went down in a three way photo finish. Only needs to get some luck from the barrier and he’ll just about take care of this lot.
Big Danger: Landing is the interesting runner here. Looked like a future superstar a couple of years, then had severe injuries and had 12 months off before running twice in the Spring and failed badly. Now with David Vandyke and has looked quite impressive in a couple of barrier trial wins. Prefer to watch him and do it on raceday, but if he brings his best form, he’ll give this a shake.
Roughie: Sir Berus worked to the line very strongly last week at Rosehill behind Generalife and he was quite good there considering the race was suited for horses near the pace. Record at Randwick is poor, but carries no weight and can handle the going.

Race Eight (16:25) : Winter Dash 1200m

Back Me: Pretty keen on an each way basis in Oakfield Commands. His first run in seven months was at Rosehill six weeks back when working home nicely near the inside to run second to Forster. Has been off the scene since, largely due to the drama surrounding Darren Smith. Now with Gerald Ryan, only carries 52.5kg, drawn well and Lester Grace does ride the horse well.
Big Danger: Territory got a long way back when resuming in the June Stakes and worked to the line okay late behind Avoid Lightning. That mare is a leading chance in the Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm, so that form reads well for a race like this.
Roughie: Zaratone was horrendous first up at Scone, then was much better when second to Avoid Lightning in the June Stakes. Once again, he maps quite well and gets an uncontested lead, so he could take some catching again at odds.
