Good pace should ensure that all horses get their chance.

Warranty gets the biggest advantage and arguably Victorem the least.

They may choose to be more negative and go back to last but he’s strong enough to sit 3 wide.

Leading Contenders

Victorem ($3.00)

Country Championship winner at his previous start, he steps to black type racing for the first time.

Artlee and Clearly Innocent the winners of the first and second Country Championships have both proven competitive at Group level while last year’s winner Free Standing hasn’t gone on, perhaps reflecting the fact that his win was very much unexpected at an SP of $31.00.

He has been stepping in ratings at each of his runs and with a record of 5 wins from 6, is the clear top-rated horse on the OHC at 89 handing him a relative advantage under the set weights and penalties conditions of the race.

Maps wide but that may not be a great disadvantage here and I can’t see him doing anything but running well.

Beau Geste ($9.50)

Perennially running on with eye-catching sectionals, it’s that very racing pattern that has taken his record to 2 wins from 10 starts.

Yet to be proven at group level and racing below his career peak he ‘may’ step back to that one day but he isn’t one that I can back.

Sambro ($5.50)

Ran 0.3L 2nd to Levendi in the Carbine Club Stakes in the Spring and he has subsequently been a little disappointing in his three starts with a placing in restricted company his best effort.

No doubt he has plenty of potential and can start turning the placed efforts (7 of 14 career to date) into wins.

Similarly, to Victorem he maps back and wide.

Warranty ($8.00)

Nice win on the Kensington track last start running the fastest L600 of the day.

She was tested to Listed level in the Spring running 3rd behind Our Crown Mistress.

Big race trainers in the Snowden’s and she’ll get plenty of favours in the run from barrier 2.

Hard to beat.

Montrachet ($7.50)

The most lightly raced runner of the field, she was impressive in her last start win.

That was at maiden level and the 2nd placed horse was a disappointingly beaten favourite on Anzac Day.

Far too short in the market to interest me.

The Verdict

Toughest test to date for Victorem ($3.00), but one he’s well up to.

He needs a bit of luck in run, but his late acceleration is likely to be too strong for the field.

Hardest to beat looks to be the filly Warranty ($8.00) who could bounce to a strong new peak.
