In the news:

Risen From Doubt is ready to return to racing in the Silver Slipper Stakes with trainer Tony McEvoy buoyed by an enhanced form reference out of the Blue Diamond.

Winner of the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at his only start in the spring, Risen From Doubt will be out to confirm his lofty Golden Slipper rating when he resumes at Rosehill on Saturday.

And it’s the form that has surfaced from the Flemington Listed-race win, and not necessarily the horse’s fitness, that McEvoy expects to help Risen From Doubt the most against a field of Golden Slipper contenders headed by Unencumbered and Law.

In winning the Maribyrnong Trial, Risen From Doubt defeated Jabali by 2-1/2 lengths.

Jabali was the first of the males to finish in the Blue Diamond when he chased Earthquake home in second place at Caulfield on Saturday.

“The fact Jabali has come back and run well in the Blue Diamond is really comforting,” McEvoy said.

“But my horse now has to come back and prove he can do it.”

With Hugh Bowman making a special trip, Risen From Doubt was put through his paces with a narrow barrier trial win at Wyong last week.

Bowman keeps the ride in the Silver Slipper in a race McEvoy describes as an ideal launching for the colt’s Golden Slipper campaign.

“He’ll show a lot of improvement out of Saturday because we want him for the fifth of April (Golden Slipper day),” McEvoy said.

“This is just the first step to that and he hasn’t been fully wound up into this race.

“But he’s running because I think he will run well.”

Risen From Doubt occupies the third line of Golden Slipper betting at $11 with Earthquake already a clear-cut favourite at $2.80 after her Blue Diamond romp.

There 10 nominations for the Silver Slipper but the field could be whittled to eight by acceptance time.

Trainer Peter Snowden confirmed on Tuesday he is weighing up a different path to the Golden Slipper for Ghibellines and Memorial, saying both youngsters are unlikely to take their place in the Silver Slipper.
