The Ciaron Maher stable holds high hopes for exciting filly Exit, who is expected to continue her development with a run at Flemington this Saturday.
The three-year-old is likely to line up in a benchmark 70 race over 1400m, coming off a strong first-up victory over 1300m at Sandown on July 16.
That win was only the second start of her career, having finished ninth in the Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield over 1100m in February.
Maher’s National Assistant Trainer, Jack Turnbull, said the stable has always rated Exit and is keen to see her progress towards feature spring races.
“We’ve always thought a lot of her, and Saturday looks an ideal stepping stone,” Turnbull said.
“If she can build on her first-up win, we’ll definitely look at races like the Thousand Guineas Prelude as her next target.”
“We threw her in the deep end on debut in the Prelude where she was still raw, but she has always shown us plenty of ability.”
After nominations were kept open until Tuesday morning, just seven entries were received for the Flemington race, with the final field and barrier draw to be declared on Wednesday.
Exit boasts an appealing pedigree. Her dam, Secretly Discreet, was a winner herself, while her granddam Maybe Discreet was a Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) winner and also claimed the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m).
Too Darn Discreet, another daughter of Maybe Discreet and a Stakes winner in her own right, is also entered at Flemington this weekend in the Benchmark 84 Handicap over 1600m.
