Horse Racing News: Hot jump-out heat at Caulfield

A strong group of horses will take part in Wednesday’s Caulfield jump-outs, providing an early spring preview for racing fans.

The opening 800-metre heat will feature Group 1 winners Magic Time, Attrition, Mornington Glory, Pinstriped, Desert Lightning, La Dorada and Smokin’ Romans, with 12 heats scheduled in total.

Trainer Gavin Bedggood confirmed Mornington Glory will step out at Caulfield after plans to jump-out at Cranbourne on Monday were abandoned due to the move to Polytrack.

Mornington Glory is being aimed at a similar campaign to last year when he claimed three straight wins at Moonee Valley, culminating in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m).

The sprinter began that preparation in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield, followed by a Benchmark 100 success at The Valley and victory in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) before his Group 1 breakthrough.

Bedggood said the gelding is on track to resume in the Norman Carlyon Stakes on August 23 at Moonee Valley before heading to the Moir Stakes.

“He’s in great order and has improved each week. He’ll jump-out Wednesday, trial again 12 days later, and then start off in the Carlyon into the Moir just like last year,” Bedggood said.

Mornington Glory last raced when finishing third in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1200m) last October, with an autumn campaign curtailed by a joint issue before the Oakleigh Plate.
