Caulfield Cup favourites have firmed in betting with Sportingbet Australia following the announcement by owner Lloyd Williams that Green Moon and Sea Moon will bypass the race and his sole runner will be Fawkner.
Chris Waller stablemates Hawkspur, $4.80 into $4.60, and Royal Descent, $8 into $7, continue to head the Caulfield Cup market from well backed international raider Dandino $8.50 into $7.50.
“Dandino has been the best backed runner in the last few days and if he draws well will probably start second favourite,” Sportingbet’s Michael Felgate said.
“We’ve taken more bets on Dandino than any other runner since his impressive work-out with Craig Williams at Werribee, he’s firmed from $11 into $7.50 since last week and we expect more money to come.”
Fawkner has been the other big firmer in Caulfield Cup betting, a $51 chance two weeks ago he is now into $13 with team Williams declaring he is their top Cup hope.
“He’s a bad result for us, some smart punters jumped on at the $51 a couple of weeks ago and there has been a constant stream of bets on him since his impressive third in the Turnbull Stakes.”
“It’s a good push when Lloyd pulls his other big chances out to ensure Fawkner gets a run. We’ve trimmed his odds from $18 into $13 since team Williams declared he will be their only Cup runner” Felgate said.
