Here it is punters – the one we’ve all been waiting for. The Neds Blue Diamond Stakes headlines an enormous day at Caulfield on Saturday, and I cannot remember being this revved up for a race.

Not only does it carry the name of Australia’s newest and most progressive online bookie, the Neds Blue Diamond has drawn an outstanding and capacity field of two-year-olds and there is terrific value to be found in betting.

Blue Diamond Stakes – Winner

No. 2 Hanseatic

It is simply impossible to argue with Hanseatic’s class, record and ability, and he will take a power of beating in the Neds Blue Diamond. The Street Boss colt stamped himself as one to watch at the trials prior to making his debut and has since put the writing on the wall with three outstanding wins, all in black type company and each a step up in class, every time. Anthony Freedman saddled Lyre to a win in this race, in the Godolphin blue last year and if Hanseatic gets appropriate luck in running from the rails draw, there’s no reason why he can’t return another win.

Blue Diamond Stakes – 2nd

No. 5 Tagaloa

I have been a fan of this horse since the moment I saw that he was by Lord Kanaloa and for mine, he is over the odds in Neds Blue Diamond betting. We simply never get to see Japanese-bred two-year-olds in Australia, so what a treat that we get to witness Tagaloa from his first racing preparation, and what an even bigger treat that he’s actually a good horse. He filled the minors in the Maribyrnong Plate on debut, broke his maiden at The Valley second-up and returned from a short spell to finish fourth in the Blue Diamond Prelude a fortnight ago. He’ll enjoy good improvement from that effort, he’s drawn a peach in gate 4 and he can fight out the finish.

Blue Diamond Stakes – 3rd

No. 6 Rulership

Rulership ran a lovely second behind Hanseatic in the Prelude a couple of weeks ago and is another horse that will take good improvement into the Neds Blue Diamond. The I Am Invincible colt had the benefit of a few nice trials prior to making his debut and franked those performances with a dominant win over 1000m at Randwick, in what was his only other start prior to the Prelude. Mark Zahra, who is riding in excellent touch stays aboard and the horse looks up to winning.

Blue Diamond Stakes – 4th

No. 8 Away Game

It’s impossible to fault anything that Away Game has produced so far, and I think that she represents the best chance for the fillies’ contingent in Neds Blue Diamond betting. The Snitzel filly ran two lengths fourth to Hanseatic in the Listed Merson Cooper on debut and has since won the Listed Calaway Gal, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and the Group 3 Widden Stakes. She’s clearly an above-average athlete, she’s weighted ideally as a filly and she is rock-hard fit. Why she always displays a great price is starting to become a mystery.
