It’s one of the biggest fights since the turn of the century and finally, we’ll be treated to a rematch between heavyweight stars Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon.

The first time that these two fighters met the bout ended in a controversial draw, with many having marked Fury as the winner on points. That result and the obvious disdain between the fierce rivals has well and truly added to the theatre of Wilder vs Fury 2, and there hasn’t been as much interest in a heavyweight bout between a Brit and an American since Lennox Lewis defeated Mike Tyson in 2002.

We’ve provided the background and a preview of both fighters below, as well as our suggested betting plays and Wilder vs Fury 2 tips.

Deontay Wilder

43 fights, 42 wins, 41 by way of knockout and just the one draw is how the ledger reads for Deontay Wilder ahead of Wilder vs Fury 2. As that record suggests, the Bronze Bomber has been nothing short of outstanding throughout a storied professional career that began in 2008.

He is the defending WBC Heavyweight Champion, having won the title from Canadian Bermane Stiverne in 2015 and successfully defended it on ten subsequent occasions.

Since drawing with Fury in 2018, Wilder has fought on two subsequent occasions: both KO victories over fellow American Dominic Breazeale and division veteran Luis Ortiz. While trailing on all three judges’ scorecards in the latter before mustering the knockout punch, it is fair to say that he never looked like losing either fight, and that a re-match with Fury is an enormous rise in class for the thirty-four-year-old.

Wilder is widely recognised as the most powerful puncher in the boxing world today, if not the history of the sport, and his ability to get inside the defence and cleanly connect with his opponent has seen all but two of his fights finish within the distance. He looked to have beaten Fury twice when sending the Brit to the canvas in 2018 and although he was unable to find the lethal blow, it was that power alone that saw him into the draw.

There is no doubt that Wilder’s power will be the key to his success on Sunday and a knockout victory somewhere in the later rounds looms as a realistic outcome.

Tyson Fury

The Gypsy King is recognised as much for his bizarre antics as he is his in-ring ability, but that in no way takes away from his incredible talent and skill.

Similarly to Wilder, Fury enters this fight with an undefeated record; 30 fights, 29 wins and one draw. He is the lineal heavyweight champion and has taken some of the sport’s biggest scalps since going pro in 2008.

Since drawing with Wilder in 2018, Fury has also gone on to win two fights; a second-round TKO of German Tom Schwarz and a unanimous decision over the previously undefeated Swede Otto Wallin; a fighter who himself is expected to challenge for world titles in the near future. Unlike Wilder, he was well and truly tested in his most recent fight, but his class ultimately rose to the surface on his way to victory.

Fury has clearly been a world class fighter throughout his career, but he went to another level within the space of twelve months from late 2014 when he defeated Dereck Chisora for several regional titles, successfully defended the WBO International Heavyweight title against Christian Hammer before peaking with a unanimous decision over the legendary Wladimir Klitschko. That fight saw his stocks skyrocket and he hasn’t looked back since.

Fury is one of the sport’s best defensive boxers, while his speed and agility is incredible for a boxer of his size, and certainly unparalleled in the heavyweight division. The key to his success will be scoring plenty of points throughout the fight and more importantly, staying out of Wilder’s range.

Wilder vs Fury 2 Tips & Overview

There is no doubt that we are set for a thrilling contest between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury once again. While many have suggested that this fight will only end in one of two ways, those being Wilder by KO or Fury on points, both fighters harbour world-class talent and the ability to win in a multitude of ways.

Wilder’s incredible power almost saw him into victory the last time that these fighters stepped into the ring and worryingly for Fury, he’s probably only improved since then. Expect Wilder to begin this fight in a similar way to what we’ve grown accustomed, before looking to end it somewhere beyond Round 7.

Fury’s toughness and agility will take him a long way against Wilder on Sunday. His ability to get back up in 2018, particularly after the second knock-down was truly incredible, while his ability to fight through a nasty cut and beat Wallin unanimously last year only added to his reputable backbone.

I am an enormous fan of Fury, his personality, character and his outstanding ability in the ring. He is truly one of the greatest talents that boxing has produced, but I am worried that he is slightly over the ridge, entering this fight. Wilder proved that he can be patient when beating Ortiz last year and his power is truly second to none. If he can land punches similar to those that he produced the last time these men fought, it’s hard imagining Fury being able to consistently get back up.

Unfortunately for Fury, I think that his opportunity to beat Wilder was in 2018 and I’ll be looking to back Wilder to win by KO.

Odds:

Suggested Bets

Back Deontay Wilder to win by KO/TKO at $2.38
Back Deontay Wilder to win in Round 9 at $17
Back Deontay Wilder to win in Round 10 at $21
