Blinkers for Revolving Door in Starlight Express Room Stakes

Revolving Door will wear blinkers as tries to press his claims for the Caulfield Guineas when he runs in a Listed race at Flemington.

Trainer Clinton McDonald believes the time is right to try the blinkers in Saturday’s Starlight Express Room Stakes (1400m).

McDonald says he has always thought Revolving Door is a horse who would appreciate blinkers.

“I worked him with the blinkers on Tuesday morning and he worked really well,” McDonald said.

Revolving Door won over 1300m at Sandown last preparation, beating Seaburge, then went for a spell after finishing third to Seaburge in the Group Two VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Flemington in March.

The trainer believes Revolving Door is a genuine Caulfield Guineas contender and has been pleased with his two starts as a three-year-old, with the colt finishing sixth in the Vain Stakes over 1100m and fifth in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) after having to go back from a wide gate.

“The horse is going great,” McDonald said.

“He’s been working up to it. His fitness levels are starting to come. He’s a big gross colt and we always trained him to take those couple of runs to bring him on and he’s right where he needs to be heading towards the Caulfield Guineas.”

“(Jockey) Nick Hall is rapt with the way he’s going, he reckons he’s on target, and now he’s starting to get to distances where he can be competitive,” McDonald said.

McDonald had been hoping for a good barrier draw for Saturday but Revolving Door has drawn awkwardly in barrier 11 of 14.
