Watson no-show for NSW v Qld

Test player Shane Watson failed to bat as NSW were dismissed for 175 in their second innings of the Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland on Sunday.

Watson hasn’t been seen since leaving Allan Border Field midway through Saturday’s play after complaining of a sore calf muscle following his only over of the match.

It’s unknown how serious the allrounder’s injury is although scan results are expected later on Sunday to determine his availability for this week’s opening Test against South Africa at the Gabba.

Resuming on 5-125, the Blues extended their lead to 103 runs before Cameron Gannon dismissed Josh Hazlewood (4) to end the innings and complete tidy figures of 4-61 from 15.4 overs.

Mitchell Starc, himself pushing for a starting spot in Australia’s Test XI, batted his way to a breezy 25 before being the first wicket to fall on an overcast day in Brisbane.

He was bowled by a Luke Feldman yorker, the Bulls’ quick then removing Trent Copeland for 10 on his way to innings figures of 3-58.

Gannon claimed the last two wickets of the innings, with Peter Nevill caught behind for 28 and Hazlewood the final man dismissed.

Test opener David Warner top-scored with 39 made on Saturday.

It’s highly unlikely Watson will feature when Queensland begin their chase for 104 runs to win.
