Warner takes classic catch

Pocket rocket David Warner is known for his explosive batting but his dynamic fielding took centre stage in Saturday’s World Twenty20 warm-up game against New Zealand.

Kiwi tailender Tim Southee’s drive to long-on was set to clear the boundary rope.

But Warner leapt into the air and, upon realising he’d land over the rope if he completed the catch, thus making it a six, Warner tapped the ball back to teammate Cameron White, who gobbled up a simple chance and quickly burst into applause at Warner’s skills.

Warner’s catch came after Dan Christian’s remarkable full-length dive to grasp the ball in the fingertips of his left hand during the T20 series against Pakistan in Dubai earlier this month.

Australia won Saturday’s game by 56 runs, bowling New Zealand out for 83 after scoring 6-139 including Warner’s 24 which came off just 14 deliveries including one four and two sixes.
