Tendulkar eyeing ton in massive run chase

India have reached 2-92 at tea on day four of the fourth Test against Australia at Adelaide Oval after the home side set a target of 500 to win.

India’s “Little Master” Sachin Tendulkar is seven not out, as he chases the personal milestone of becoming the first player in cricket history to score 100 international hundreds.

Rahul Dravid is unbeaten on 19.

Ryan Harris and spinner Nathan Lyon made the breakthroughs on Friday for Australia.

Adelaide’s lifeless batting pitch is tailor-made for Tendulkar to add to his superstar status in the game, having been stuck on 99 hundreds in Tests and one-day internationals since March 2011.

Gautam Gambhir was caught behind off the bowling of Harris for three but his fellow opener Virender Sehwag was undeterred, blasting his way to a half-century off 36 balls.

The Delhi thrasher took a huge swipe at a full toss from Lyon and top-edged a catch to cover for 62 which included 12 boundaries.

ABC Radio commentator Geoff Lawson said a suburban fifth-grade player wouldn’t have lost his wicket to such a delivery. It was actually the second time in the match Sehwag had been dismissed caught off a full toss.

Australia declared their second innings three overs after lunch at 5-167 with Ricky Ponting unbeaten on 60 and Brad Haddin 11 not out.

Skipper Michael Clarke had been first to go on Friday, caught behind for 37 off Umesh Yadav’s bowling. Mike Hussey made 15.

Clarke’s series tally ended with a stunning 626 runs at an average of 125.2.

Ponting, 37, finished with 544 at 108.8 after starting the summer with his future under intense scrutiny.

India would have to set a world record to win, eclipsing the mark of 7-418 by the West Indies against Australia in Antigua in 2003.

Australia lead the four-match series 3-0.
