NSW routed for 91 in Shield against WA

NSW’s decision to bat first on a green WACA wicket has backfired with Western Australia’s pacemen rolling the Blues for just 91 in the Sheffield Shield match in Perth on Friday.

Boosted by the inclusion of Test duo Shane Watson and Brad Haddin, Blues skipper Stephen O’Keefe won the toss but his star-studded line-up were dismissed for their lowest score this season before tea on day one.

Nathan Rimmington (4-31) took career-best figures, including four of the last five wickets, as a combination of good bowling and poor shot selection led to the collapse.

Impressive quick Nathan Coulter-Nile (4-20) claimed the prize scalps of Watson (21) and Haddin (0), while other recent Test players Usman Khawaja (15) and Phil Hughes (28) failed to kick on despite making patient starts.

A concern for the Warriors is skipper Marcus North, who will have scans later on Friday on a finger injured when he dropped a tough chance at gully before lunch.

Michael Hogan finished with figures of 2-21 for the home side, as they look to take first-innings points and press for a berth in the final.
