New South Wales will enter the second day of their Sheffield Shield match against Victoria at Wagga Wagga desperate for quick wickets after being bowled out for a modest 206.
The Blues tumbled to their lowest first-innings score of the season on a tough batting wicket fully exploited by a disciplined Victorian bowling performance marked by consistent line and length.
Despite the bowler-friendly conditions NSW face a challenging task against a powerful and experienced Victorian batting line-up which includes Cameron White, Matthew Wade, plus openers Rob Quiney and Chris Rogers, who will resume at 0-11.
The Blues had little joy with the bat on day one and, aside from a third-wicket stand of 84 between Nic Maddinson (49) and Kurtis Patterson (42), they lost wickets at regular intervals throughout.
Former Test bowler Peter Siddle (2-39), fellow opener Chris Tremain (2-35) and leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed (2-47) were the pick of the bowlers.
Hot conditions are once again expected at Robertson Oval in the first-ever Shield match to played in Wagga Wagga.
The match is a key contest with the winner moving to the top of the ladder should South Australia defeat leaders Western Australia in Adelaide, in a game that commences on Monday.
