Doolan aims to hold onto Test batting role

Test batsman Alex Doolan says Australia A will be aiming to put India A to the sword in their upcoming four-day clashes.

Doolan, who made his Test debut in Australia’s 2-1 series win in South Africa in February-March 2014, wasn’t offered a contract by Cricket Australia for 2014/15.

The Test No.3 will play for Australia A in the first of two four-day games against India A starting on Sunday at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.

Australia’s next Test series is in UAE against Pakistan in October and Doolan says he has high expectations for the summer ahead, which includes a home Test series against India.

“Hopefully we’ll make some good scores and put India to the sword,” Doolan said on Thursday.

“I’ve had a really nice break. I’ve had about six weeks off, got married and had a brief honeymoon.

“I have high expectations. I hope to cement my spot in the team but I can only do that with good performances.”

Doolan, 28, has a Test average of 31 in his three-match career.

Another batsman looking to impress selectors in Brisbane is Queensland’s Chris Lynn, who has represented Australia at T20 level.

Lynn belted 587 runs at 58.70 last summer at Shield level.

The 24-year-old is returning to red-ball cricket after playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

“If you put scores together, you never know what’ll happen,” Lynn said.

Australia A will also host South Africa A for two four-day games in Townsville in August.
