Ahmed returns for Vic in ODD Cup

Victoria have restored Australian One-Day representative Fawad Ahmed to their line-up for the limited overs elimination final against NSW at North Sydney Oval on Thursday.

The Pakistani-born leg-spinner has been omitted for the past few games as Victoria finished in second spot on the competition ladder.

Third-placed NSW have omitted off-spinner Stephen O’Keefe, electing to bring in Josh Hazlewood as an extra seamer.

Much focus will be on the in-form batsman in each team. Victoria’s Cameron White has struck five successive half-centuries, while NSW’s big-hitting Test opener David Warner has peeled off two centuries in the past week.

Victoria have won the toss and elected to bat first.

The winner of Thursday’s match will meet reigning champions Queensland in Sunday’s final.

Teams:

NSW Blues: David Warner, Peter Nevill, Steven Smith, Nic Maddinson, Kurtis Patterson, Ben Rohrer, Sean Abbott, Gurinder Sandhu, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Doug Bollinger, Stephen O’Keefe (12th man)

Victoria: Matthew Wade, Cameron White, David Hussey, Rob Quiney, Peter Handscomb, Dan Christian, Peter Siddle, John Hastings, Jon Holland, William Sheridan, Fawad Ahmed, Michael Hill (12th man)
