Bloodied Hibbert lifts Pacers in NBA

Roy Hibbert battled through the pain of a suspected broken nose to finish with a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds to help Indiana Pacers to a 98-96 NBA win over Los Angeles Lakers 98-96 on Sunday.

The 25-year-old centre was bloodied in the first quarter during a foul on Lakers star Kobe Bryant but remained in the game.

He shot nine-of-13 from the field and scored eight of his points in the final quarter as Indiana broke the Lakers’ nine-game winning streak at home.

A half dozen players finished in double figures as the Pacers used a balanced attack to beat the Lakers and win their seventh game in their past nine.

Bryant scored a game-high 33 points for the Lakers who suffered just their second loss at home this season.

With the Pacers leading 95-94 in the fourth, Bryant ran the clock down and Los Angeles had a chance to take a one-point lead with 10 seconds left but Derek Fisher’s air ball failed to connect.

Guard Darren Collison sank a pair of free throws on the next possession to give Indiana a 97-94 lead with 8.7 seconds left.

Lakers Pau Gasol capped the scoring with a lay-up as the final buzzer sounded.

Milwaukee picked up their second-consecutive away win with a 91-82 victory over Miami.

Brandon Jennings scored 23 points and Ersan Ilyasova added 16 while Australian centre Andrew Bogut scored 13 points.

Heat star LeBron James finished with 28 points and 13 rebounds while Chris Bosh scored 23 points for Miami who won three-straight going into the Bucks clash.

In Washington, the Wizards edged Boston 100-94 with Paul Pierce scoring a season highs with 34 points and 10 assists, and equalling his season best of eight rebounds, to lead the Celtics to victory.

The Los Angeles Clippers eased past Toronto 103-91 with Mo Williams leading the charge with the first 17 points for the home side before finishing the game with 26.

While New Jersey beat Charlotte 97-87 at home with Deron Williams starring with 19 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists.
