Sydney’s Goodes to contest AFL charge

Sydney star Adam Goodes will contest his rough-conduct charge at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

The dual Brownlow medallist was booked on Saturday after an incident involving Port Adelaide’s Jacob Surjan.

They were contesting a ground ball and Goodes slid into Surjan, knees first.

Goodes was also suspended during the pre-season for rough conduct.

The four-time All-Australian faces a one-match ban if he loses his case at the tribunal.

Western Bulldogs defender Brian Lake and Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes have accepted one-match suspensions.

Lake was reported in the last term of Saturday night’s loss to St Kilda after he caught Tom Simpkin on the jaw with a left jab.

Apart from suffering a bad loss to Richmond, Grimes was also concussed when he tried to tackle Richmond’s Daniel Jackson on Saturday at the MCG.

The match review panel suspended Grimes for rough conduct, after an earlier sling tackle on the same player.

Carlton’s Marc Murphy has accepted a $900 fine for making an obscene gesture to Collingwood fans during Friday night’s clash at the MCG and Melbourne’s Nathan Jones has accepted a $900 fine for making negligent contact with an umpire.
