Magpies address Treloar AFL trade saga

Collingwood have refused to shutdown rampant speculation they are attempting to offload star midfielder Adam Treloar during this year’s AFL trade period.

The 27-year-old, who is contracted at the club until the end of the 2025 season, is believed to be on the outer at the Magpies.

Treloar is adamant on staying, but Collingwood are dealing with a bulging salary cap and would like to ease pressure by getting rid of some of their big long-term contracts.

Following weeks of leaked media reports about Treloar and Collingwood, Magpies list boss Ned Guy spoke on Wednesday but was tight-lipped about the situation.

“We’re just working through a few things with Adam and his manager Tim (Hazell),” Guy told AFL Trade Radio when asked if Treloar was a required Collingwood player.

“I know there’s been some conjecture on when we were going to talk about it but there’s been an agreement that we weren’t going to play this one out publicly.

“When personal circumstances and careers are being discussed, it’s not often appropriate to make those discussions public until everyone agrees it’s the right time to do so.”

Treloar has stamped himself as a Collingwood fan-favourite across 94 games for the Magpies after moving from Greater Western Sydney ahead of the 2016 season.

Guy said a report claiming Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley had told Treloar he was not wanted by senior players at the club was “untrue”.

Buckley himself wrote on social media on Monday that the bombshell SEN story was “news to him”.

Treloar’s partner Kim Ravaillion has signed with Super Netball franchise the Queensland Firebirds next year and will be moving north with their daughter Georgie.

It was thought Treloar could follow Ravaillion and sign with either of the Queensland AFL clubs, but the Brisbane Lions have ruled out an approach for him and the Gold Coast Suns’ interest has cooled.
