Lion Staker announces AFL retirement

Brisbane’s AFL clean-out has continued with the retirement of key position player Brent Staker.

Staker, 31, told teammates on Wednesday of his intention to hang up his boots with immediate effect, just days after the Lions also severed ties with former captain Jed Adcock.

Staker was drafted in 2002 by West Coast and kicked 84 goals in his seven-year career with the Eagles before he was traded to Brisbane.

His stint with the Lions has been wrecked by various injuries, limiting him to a career total of 160 games in 13 years.
