Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley knows some consider his AFL club is in fourth spot by default.

But he’s bemused by the ‘who have they beaten’ talk about his side.

“We have played 12 games. There’s only six (other clubs) left,” Hinkley said after Port’s 40-point home win against Brisbane on Saturday.

“And we can only play who we can play.

“Yeah, we would have loved to have beaten a couple of other sides when we have been in really tough contests.

“But we will get better at that and we will turn them into victories at some point.”

Port have banked seven wins and five losses with limited recent output from captain Travis Boak, who has been recast from a midfield to floating half-forward role.

But Hinkley dismissed speculation Boak was carrying an injury.

“He is a captain and a figurehead, that is why you ask those questions,” Hinkley said.

“He has got nothing too much wrong with him. He is just working away, like the team.

“Trav is a pretty good player, let’s be honest.

“And that is why you notice them, I reckon, the really good players just a little bit off – you actually see it a little bit more.

“For us as a football team, we need our top-end players and our leadership players to play strong footy all of the time.”
