Hawks’ Gunston stars in AFL practice game

Young Hawthorn recruit Jack Gunston made a quick impression with his new club on Friday, booting four goals in an AFL intraclub match in Launceston.

The Hawks picked up the 20-year-old in an off-season trade from Adelaide and development coach David Flood said he looked set to slot nicely into their attack.

“Jack has fitted into the club really well and he presented well today,” Flood told the Hawthorn website.

“The thing with a new recruit is that they always want to get off to a good start and make a good impression at the club and Jack is certainly working hard at doing that.

“Hopefully, he can be a real asset to our footy club.”

While Flood starred in attack, regular forward and two-time Coleman Medallist Lance Franklin was a standout in the midfield.

“In today’s footy, you’ve got to be able to play two or three different positions and Buddy is no different to some of our other players,” Flood said.

Youngsters Isaac Smith and Shane Savage also impressed in an injury-free hitout.
