Hall’s farewell in fiery QAFL decider

Fireworks are predicted when AFL great Barry Hall officially closes his playing career in Saturday’s QAFL grand final for Labrador.

The 2005 Sydney premiership captain will hang up the boots after Saturday’s game.

The 40-year-old will be in the goal square for the Tigers against Gold Coast rivals Palm Beach-Currumbin.

Hall has kicked 33 goals in his seven games this season under coach Aaron Shattock, himself an AFL champion with Brisbane in 2002.

Shattock confirmed it would be Hall’s last hurrah and hinted it could be a memorable one as the club chases its third straight premiership.

“Palmy got stuck into him last time, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens on the weekend given there’s no tomorrow,” Shattock told AAP.

Noted for his on-field aggression during a 289-game AFL career, Shattock said Hall has battled to keep a lid on his emotions this season.

“It is difficult for him; the umps have panicked a few times and penalised him and he’s had to try and control himself,” the coach said.

“He’s had to learn to temper his anger.

“But he’s really bought in here and had a fair bit to say; it’s been good for the young guys.”

The Tigers went unbeaten through the regular season, but lost to Palm Beach-Currumbin in the major semi-final earlier this month.
