Geelong Cats vs Sydney Swans Tips, Odds and Teams – 2018 AFL Round 6

Saturday’s AFL 2018 Round 6 match is between Geelong Cats and Sydney Swans. The opening kick is set to commence at 13:45 local time with the game to be played at GMHBA Stadium. The away team Sydney Swans are the favourites for the match. View our preview and teams for the game between Geelong Cats and Sydney Swans.

When: 13:45 | Saturday 28/04/2018

Where: GMHBA Stadium

Preview:

Buddy Franklin and midfielder Dan Hannebery are out of this game giving the Cats a major boost. Although Chris Scott last week said Gary Ablett could play this week, he won’t play!
In any case, the Swans have other concerns including the form of their captain Josh Kennedy who has had a very quiet last  fortnight. They will want him to return to form along with Luke Parker if they’re any chance to beat Geelong away from home.
KEY BATTLE: Tom Hawkins v Heath Grundy
Hawkins will resume at full forward after missing the Port game with back spasms. He’ll be picked up by Swans defender Heath Grundy who needs to respond after being badly beaten by Crows captain Taylor Walker last week.
The Verdict
Geelong rarely lose at home and this should continue against a Swans side who are missing their best player.
The Cats have won 10 consecutive day matches at GMHBA Stadium.

AFL News:

The blows keep coming for the Sydney Swans with Lance Franklin ruled out for at least this weekend’s AFL clash with Geelong.

Franklin has been quietly battling a bruised heel for the past month but coach John Longmire revealed on Tuesday the star forward had aggravated the injury during Friday’s 10-point home loss to Adelaide.

Key midfielder Dan Hannebery will be sidelined for Saturday’s game at Kardinia Park with a strained groin.

Longmire said Franklin sustained his injury against West Coast in round one and added it would be “a reasonable conclusion” to assume the hard surface at Optus Stadium played a part.

“He hasn’t done any training of any substance since then,” Longmire said.

“We’ve been trying to get him better week by week and hoping he’d get to a point where he was not only getting through games better but do some training.

“But the heel hasn’t responded and got worse on the weekend, so he won’t be playing this week and we’re not sure after that how it’ll respond.”

Longmire admitted Franklin’s absence could extend beyond the away game at the Cats.

“We’re not putting a time frame on it at the moment,” he said.

“Bruised heels are two things; they’re really painful and hard to get a guide on how long it takes to come back.”
