Premiership defender Daniel Chick has launched another extraordinary verbal attack on West Coast, labelling the club’s hierarchy as psychopaths and claiming he even suffered a stroke near the end of his AFL career.
Chick hit the headlines in the lead-up to last year’s grand final when he told of widespread use of cocaine, ecstasy and methamphetamine during his time at the Eagles.
And his latest outburst is just as explosive, with the 252-game veteran taking aim at former teammates, his ex-coach John Worsfold, and other key figures at the club over their handling of the drugs issue.
The comments come in the wake of Nine Network’s The Footy Show’s expose on the Eagles’ toxic drug culture during their 2006 premiership success.
Chick and former Eagle Ben Cousins are reportedly the only two players who haven’t RSVPd for West Coast’s upcoming reunion of the 2006 premiership side.
Chick claims he was left to rot by the club, and that former teammate Andrew Embley told lies about their infamous punch-up.
West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett said he’d give back the 2006 premiership if it meant some drug-abusing players were healthy again.
But Chick criticised the club for failing to do anything about the toxic culture until it was too late, and for covering up much of the mess.
“You had a chance to step up and show some balls… i’m proud of myself for standing up and taking you pr**ks head on and you just empowered me even more,” Chick wrote on Facebook.
“AFL fans surely see through the bulls**t now… own up and let some healing take place?
“No, psychopaths never show empathy unless they need to trick you into thinking they care.
“My heart is bigger than your fist.”
Chick was also highly critical of Worsfold, claiming the Eagles legend abandoned him during his time of need.
“Thanks for the call Woosha, I been going real well since my last Derby (in 2007),” Chick wrote.
“You aware that I been sick but never called me in 9 years and I was lucky to have not died from that injury mate to the throat and whiplash trauma but nope, you don’t give a f**k that’s proven now.”
Chick slammed his former teammates for abandoning him.
“Come on, put your hand up and take some heat you cowards,” Chick said.
“I have, Cuzzy (Ben Cousins) has, (Daniel) Kerr is in denial and always will be, and the rest of my teammates who sat back and watched me struggle when I was hurt all these years, to save your asses from running amok too much… shame on you.
He also revealed the toll both football and his drug-taking took on his body, which he claims led to a stroke.
“It’s only a game okay, it’s not real, it’s entertainment… and I got hurt entertaining you all at work okay… simple, and I have rights and i’ll use the law to get them rights working for me.
“I not earned $1 from WCE or the AFL or that 2006 GF Since 2007 and I had a stroke in my last few games ???,” Chick added.
