Claye Beams a Rising Star nominee

Brisbane midfielder Claye Beams has emulated older brother Dayne by earning a nomination for the AFL Rising Star award.

Claye Beams got the nod for round one after having the better of his match-up with Melbourne’s reigning best and fairest winner Brent Moloney in Saturday’s clash at the MCG.

Playing just his sixth senior game, Beams accumulated 25 disposals and five tackles as the Lions won by 41 points, winning praise from coach Michael Voss.

“His attention to detail is first-class and the way he goes about his footy is very professional – it was a good solid all-round performance,” said Voss.

“He’s worked up to this for a couple of years now and it’s certainly a wonderful way to start the season for him.”

Beams, 20, was selected by the Lions in the 2009 rookie draft and elevated to the senior list the following year.

He is the younger brother of Collingwood premiership player Dayne Beams, who was nominated for the 2009 Rising Star award.
