Blues name Silvagni as AFL emergency

Carlton fans will probably have to wait at least another week for Jack Silvagni’s eagerly-awaited AFL debut.

The third generation of the famous Blues family was included in Carlton’s squad for Sunday’s match against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

But the Blues have made one change, recalling Liam Sumner from injury and leaving out Nick Graham, with Silvagni named as an emergency.

The injury-plagued Saints have lost captain Nick Riewoldt among a whopping six changes, four of them forced.

Riewoldt is out because of the knee injury he suffered in last week’s big loss to Adelaide.

Sean Dempster (knee surgery), Paddy McCartin (concussion) and Hugh Goddard (achilles) were already casualties.

Jack Billings is a big omission and the Saints also dropped Brodie Murdoch.

Luke Delaney, Tom Lee, Nathan Wright, Blake Acres and Darren Minchington will go into the side, while Lewis Pierce will make his senior debut.

Reece Conca will play his first senior game this season when Richmond host Gold Coast at the MCG.

He’s among three changes for the misfiring Tigers, with Dylan Grimes and Jayden Short also returning.

Steve Morris is out for 12 months with a knee reconstruction, while the Tigers dropped Troy Chaplin and Jake Batchelor.

The Suns regained Rory Thompson, Trent McKenzie, Sam Day and Sean Lemmens.

Aaron Hall is the big omission, while Gold Coast also left out Keegan Brooksby and Mackenzie Willis.

Callum Ah Chee has a calf muscle injury.

Ryan Griffen and Sam Reid will go into the GWS side for their Battle of the Bridge against Sydney.

The Giants left out Adam Tomlinson and Jack Steele.

Sydney lost George Hewett to concussion and Callum Mills will take his place.
