Barry Hall joins Suns in AFL coaching role

Former Sydney great Barry Hall will join Gold Coast’s coaching staff for the 2017 AFL season.

The powerhouse forward, who also had stints with St Kilda and Western Bulldogs in a 289-game career, will act as mentor and coach the club’s key position players in a part-time capacity.

Hall kicked 746 goals in his 289-game career; his honours included three All Australian selections and the Bob Skilton Medal as Sydney’s best & fairest in 2004.

He was the leading goal kicker for his club 11 times in his 16 years in the AFL.

But his days as a player weren’t without controversy, several incidents earning him suspensions including a seven-week stint on the sidelines when he punched West Coast Eagle Brent Staker in the jaw in 2008.

Hall’s appointment will also see him reunite with former coach Rodney Eade, who he played under in his final two seasons in the AFL at the Western Bulldogs (2010-11).
