Kurt Tippett was an instant hit in Sydney colours.

The controversial recruit took a mark just 11 seconds into his debut for the Swans, against Port Adelaide on Saturday. Then he slotted the 45-metre set shot for a goal.

Tippett soon added another, and finished a wet and windy game with 2.2, six disposals, three marks and five tackles.

“I thought he looked pretty good … 2.2, that is a reasonable return,” Swans coach John Longmire said.

“He looked pretty clean. The conditions were obviously difficult, but when he got his opportunities I thought he was able to take a couple of marks and he was pretty good at ground level.”

Longmire was considering substituting Tippett at three quarter-time, until Adam Goodes jarred his right knee and was taken out of the game.

“There was no problem with his (Tippett’s) fitness … he stayed off for the last six minutes of the game but other than that, he was fine,” Longmire said of the ex-Crow, who was on the field for 80 per cent of the game.

“For a bloke who missed 12 weeks of footy, he was pretty good.”

Tippett was returning after an 11-match ban for his illegal 2009 contract with his former club Adelaide.
