Gajdosova loses 1st round in Texas tennis

Australian tennis player Jarmila Gajdosova on Sunday was knocked out in the first round of the Texas Open.

Eighth-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea beat Gajdosova 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.

Canada’s Aleksandra Wozniak beat fifth-seeded Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic 6-0 7-6 (7-2).

Two weeks ago in Montreal, Wozniak became the first Canadian since 1992 to reach the Rogers Cup quarter-finals.

In other first-round matches, seventh-seeded South African Chanelle Scheepers beat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-0 6-2.

Bojana Jovanovski of Serbia defeated Russian Alexandra Panova 4-6 6-1 6-1.
