‘Dons to meet on Hird’s AFL future

James Hird remains confident he will remain Essendon coach ahead of a board meeting at the AFL club to discuss whether he is sacked.

Hird arrived at the Bombers’ Tullamarine headquarters for work on Monday morning.

“I think I will be coaching at the end of the day,” Hird said as he arrived.

The board is understood to be meeting later Monday to discuss his future.

Club and coach are at odds after Hird decided to appeal against last month’s disastrous Federal Court ruling.

Essendon have accepted Justice John Middleton’s September 19 verdict, which ruled against the legal challenges from the Bombers and Hird.

They had argued the joint ASADA and AFL investigation into the club’s 2012 supplements program was unlawful.

Hird’s renewed legal action will start on Thursday, with an application to expedite his appeal.
